In the episode “Forgiveness and Stuff.”

LORELAI: They just brought Grandpa back up. He’s in room 202.

RORY: Well come on.

LORELAI: You go ahead, I just— I have to make a call.

RORY: Well hurry up.

LORELAI: I’ll meet you there.

LUKE: So who are you gonna go find now?

LORELAI: Stop.

LUKE: How about Jimmy Hoffa? That’ll keep you busy for a while.

LORELAI: I said stop.

LUKE: You can’t avoid going into that room forever.

When Richard collapses and is rushed to the hospital, Lorelai of course goes to visit him. Luke drives her to the hospital. Except that she doesn’t visit him. She finds every excuse she can to avoid seeing him. She’s clearly disturbed by the thought of her father in a hospital bed. So she goes to get coffee; she goes to find Emily; she goes to find Rory…

Finally, she runs out of excuses. So she tells Rory, “You go ahead. I just… I have to make a call.”

Then Luke asks her, “So who are you gonna go find now? How about Jimmy Hoffa? That’ll keep you busy for a while.”

Jimmy Hoffa was the head of the Teamstars Union, missing since 1975 and declared dead in 1983. But no one knows where his body is. There have been myths and rumors of his death. He’s said to be buried in Giants Stadium, and the Mythbusters could not demonstrate that this is impossible. Other legends put his body in the Florida Everglades, a New Jersey landfill, a Central Sanitation shredder, and in cement beneath various freeways, bridges, and buildings from Michigan to New York.
