In the episode “Forgiveness and Stuff,” in reference to It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.

At the beginning of the episode, Lorelai and Rory have spent a difficult day dealing with the people involved with the town Christmas pageant. Lorelai and Kirk argue because Lorelai accidentally stuck him with a needle while working on his costume. Taylor blames Rory for losing the arm of the baby Jesus doll, and forces her to repeatedly look for it in a trunk. On top of all the chaos, Lorelai and Rory still aren’t speaking to each other after Rory stayed out all night with Dean, and the rift is obviously weighing heavy on the girls. As Lorelai and Rory walk away from Miss Patty’s studio after several hard hours, Lorelai sourly declares:

LORELAI: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

“It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas,” is a popular Christmas song written by Meredith Wilson. Wilson is best known for writing the Broadway musical ’The Music Man,’ which premiered in 1957 (the film version was shot on the Warner Brothers outdoor set that Gilmore Girls now uses to represent Stars Hollow). The song describes all the pleasant events that are present in the days before Christmas. When seeing these things, one knows that Christmas is only around the corner.

Lorelai is clearly being sarcastic by referencing this song, since the atmosphere of this particular holiday season is anything but pleasant for her and Rory.
