On the other hand, Lorelai likes to be in control. She doesn’t like to be told what to do. And she also doesn’t like Rory to follow council she wouldn’t give. And she has perceived Logan to be a troublemaker and a risk. (But at one point, Logan did convince her he was better than that.) So she might react negatively to Logan’s “401(k)” comment.

Still, that’s a good point. I thought she was over the whole “Logan is evil” thing. And as long as Rory is going for something, and not running away, why wouldn’t Lorelai support whatever Rory wants?

Very Un-Lorelei Like!!!

I was surprised a couple of episodes ago. It started when Rory was offered the Providence job, and she still hadn’t heard from the New York Times, when Logan told Rory to hold out for the NY Times because it is her dream, and that a 401k isn’t what she should be concerned about. I know that Lorelei wanted to make a point with what happened next, because she has never trusted people from her parent’s world, and Logan is a little too, “live by the moment”, however, how unlike Lorelei was it to say, in front of Rory, that a 401k was a big deal? Rory is who she is today, because Lorelei has always told her she could do anything, and has always supported her following her dreams. I mean, Rory and Lorelei have always had it planned out, Rory was going to Chilton, then to Harvard, then to a great job at The New York Times. When Rory came out and desided to go to Yale (besides Richard and Emily being involved), Lorelei was upset that Rory was altering “the plan”. What happened to the plan in this episode???
Don’t get me wrong, yes, a 401k and benefits and the security of a non-intership position is a big deal for an adult, but the New York Times was always Rory’s dream. And when has Lorelei ever done the safe and odvious thing? She (rightfully so, don’t get me wrong) left her parents house with a baby at 16 instead of marrying the also wealthy father.
The scene was very unlike Lorelei!!!
