I believe Gran and Emily saw eye-to-eye. But they didn’t really reconcile. Because the last time Richard and Trix talked, they had an argument. That was in the episode “The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais.” One of my favorite episodes, but not because of the argument with Trix. Anyhow, at that time, Emily was feeling oppressed as usual by Trix’s demands. And when Richard started fighting with his mother, Emily took great pleasure in it.

Then when Trix died, Richard fell apart. So Emily was left to arrange the funeral and to go through Trix’s papers and possessions. And in going through the papers, Emily discovered the letter. And she then flipped and decided not to do this anymore, leaving Lorelai to take up the job.

Okay. So did I get the basic storyline right? And what’s illogical about it?

OK, now another Richard question

When Gran dies, Emily finds the incriminating letter from Gran to Richard written the day before Emily and Richard got married. Yet in an earlier episode, Gran and Emily reconcile. Isn’t this illogical?

Yeah, Merez, that was disturbing. It has disturbed me for a long time. It still disturbs me, because I believe it’s a crummy way to do business. Jason could sue Richard, not only for defaming him, but also probably for violating the business partnership. A partnership is not an arms-length transaction. It’s a fiduciary relationship. That means that each partner must take care of the other partner. So Richard couldn’t leave the partnership without talking to Jason first. And he couldn’t talk to partnership clients about leaving without getting Jason’s approval. Jason could sue his pants off. But I think I understand why Richard did it, even if I don’t agree with him.

I think what really scared Richard was losing everything he had. That’s what Floyd threatened to do, take everything Richard had. Even if Jason successfully sued Richard, Richard had Floyd’s company to back him up. I don’t think sycophancy or gullibility had much to do with it. He probably reasoned that he needed to do this to support his family, to keep Emily in the money, and to avoid looking foolish within his social circle. If Jason had to pay a price, relocate to Houston or something, well, he’s young. He’ll live. Or something like that.

I’m truly disturbed. How could Richard be that sycophantic and gullible, that he would trust Jason’s father (forget his name) and dump Jason like road kill? With all his pretentions and superficiality, this is low even for Richard. I suspect the writers wanted Jason out of the script to make room for Max, then Luke. Otherwise, I think they overdid it with Richard’s character. What do others think?

Lorelei walking down the street to “There She Goes” would be a good ending, but i think the best, would be how the 1st one ended, (just saw it Friday)….Luke tells Rory she doesn’t want to grow up to be like her mother, and Rory looks at Lorelei and says, “too late!” That would be perfect!!!

Yeah, I guess it would. That song always reminds me of Gilmore Girls, whenever I hear it.

I just started watching season 1 again, too. It’s way different seeing it after watching season 7. Like when Christopher shows up to visit, watching that after having seen him try to live in Stars Hollow. (Did I mention that already? I feel like I’m repeating myself.) Anyhow, this fortunately is a show you can watch over and over again and enjoy it as much each time. And we’ll always have those episodes.

Just started watching season 1 again and since the pilot started off with Lorelai walking down the street to “There She Goes”, don’t you think it would be appropriate to end the series this way, too?

Oh I am just bummed that I only discovered this series last fall and now it’s over …
