Lane follows Dave outside using the ruse of returning his Bible that he forgot at the Kim household. She apologizes for her mother making him play non-stop.
He says he’s got “Kurt Cobain calluses”, referring to the lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana (a grunge band from Seattle) who struggled with heroin addiction, illness and depression and was ultimately found dead from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head on April 8, 1994.
Guitar calluses are developed from plucking strings on a guitar routinely. Calluses on the fingertips make it less painful to play a guitar.
Side note: Dave Rygalski also plays “The Man Who Sold the World”, a song that Nirvana did a cover of, at Thanksgiving at Mrs. Kim’s and it also plays when Dave kisses Lane outside in this episode.
