In the episode “The Road Trip to Harvard,” in reference to Hello Kitty.

RORY: Are you sure that you’re not just running scared?… Because I think that you really love him but you’re just freaked out—

LORELAI: Enough!! (Turns out the light.)

RORY: And you don’t know what to do! (Turns on the light.) Because you did this before, with Max, in fact.

LORELAI: Rory, I don’t want to talk about this. I thought that by saying “enough” and turning off the light, you would get the message. Apparently not. The skywriter will be here in a minute.

RORY: I’m asking you a question.

LORELAI: I am a grown woman.

RORY: Says the woman with the Hello Kitty waffle iron.

LORELAI: I have earned the right not to be quizzed about my social life by my sixteen-year-old daughter.

Rory wants to talk about Lorelai’s recent breakup (again) with Max. But Lorelai doesn’t want. Sharing a bed at the Cheshire Cat Bed & Breakfast, Rory presses the issue.

Usually, Lorelai is the one with the witty comebacks, sardonic though they may sometimes be. This time, it’s Rory. Lorelai is saying that because she’s a grown woman, she can make up or break up with whomever she pleases. (She’s saying this, I think, because she doesn’t want to talk about Max, because it hurts too much.) So Rory highlight’s Lorelai’s love of Hello Kitty as something that makes her childish.

Ouch.
