In the episode “To Whom It May Concern,” in reference to The New Orleans Saints.

Lorelai notices the enormity of the new flat-screen TV Chris just installed in their living room.

He replies, “All the better to watch Reggie Bush score touchdowns on.”

Reggie Bush was a running back for the New Orleans Saints, the NFL football team, during the 2006-2007 season.

So, Christopher is a Saints fan? In Connecticut? That’s one thing I think he wants to keep quiet from his neighbors.

Unfortunately, by the time this episode aired, New Orleans had already lost a playoff game to the Chicago Bears, who will be going to the Superbowl. So after this game, Chris will not get to see Reggie Bush score any more touchdowns, until next year.

(Note that what’s happening in the episodes seems to be occurring about two weeks before the episode airs. So the letter Lorelai wrote for Luke’s hearing, she wrote that in the episode that aired January 23. But the letter itself was dated January 9. The episode with the flat-screen TV aired January 30. If the narrative was occurring during the week of the 14’th, Reggie Bush would have played in one more game this season, on January 21.)
