Lorelai and Rory mock Donna Reed, the dutiful wife. Dean thinks it’s nice how she does things for her family, but he shuts up when he senses how unpopular he’s getting. This becomes a hot area for Rory and Dean, and they end up fighting over it. But when Rory does some research into Donna Reed, she makes some interesting discoveries. Meanwhile, Morey and Babette finally have a new kitten Apricot, the first since Cinnamon died. And Babette asks Rory to sit for Apricot while she and Morey have an evening out. Rory decides to throw Dean a surprise “Donna Reed” night at the Dell’s.
Lorelai persuades Luke to paint the diner, but only by offering to help. Planning the color scheme, Luke mentions that his dad once wrote an order down on a wall, and they end up looking at it, in a particularly sensual scene, kneeling on the floor behind the counter. Meanwhile, Rory brings a chick home for a school project. When Lorelai returns home from Luke’s, she finds the chick has escaped. Immediately, she calls Luke and asks him to help her find the escaped chick. Luke agrees, thinking she actually wants him to come over for an amorous encounter.
