RORY: He actually likes it when we come for Thanksgiving. All these years and we never knew.
LORELAI: Hm, he’s the Grinch and we’re Cindy Lou Who.
RORY: So Cindy Lou, what do we do?
Having been roped into four—count ’em, four—Thanksgiving dinners, Lorelai and Rory decide to cancel out on Luke’s. Unfortunately, when they tell him they can’t make it, he actually seems disappointed.
This is an allusion to Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. In the story, the Grinch dresses up like Santa Claus and sets out to steal all the presents and decorations from Whoville. While performing his dastardly deed, little Cindy Lou Who (who was no more than two) awakes and stumbles onto him stealing their Christmas tree.
Also note the way Lorelai and Rory rhyme their lines, mirroring the style of Dr. Seuss’ children’s books.
