RORY: Stop.
LORELAI: No, I’m just saying, you couldn’t find one made of metal in case anyone has X-ray eyes?
RORY: And now we say goodbye.
A muumuu is a loose dress, originally from Hawaii. They’re frequently brightly colored, with floral patterns, like aloha shirts. Because they are so loose-fitting, people also wear muumuus as maternity dresses.
Lorelai calls Rory’s baggy sweater a “muumuu” as a metaphor for how baggy it is. Because it fits so loosely, it doesn’t flatter Rory’s body. Hence the comment, “you couldn’t find one made of metal in case anyone has X-ray eyes?”
