In the episode “I Can't Get Started.”

LORELAI: Huh. You know what I just realized? Oy is the funniest word in the entire world. I mean, think about it. You never hear the word oy and not smile. Impossible. Funny, funny word. Poodle is another funny word.

EMILY: Please drink your drink, Lorelai.

LORELAI: In fact, if you put oy and poodle together in the same sentence, you’d have a great new catch phrase, you know? Like, “Oy with the poodles already.” So from now on, when the perfect circumstances arise, we will use our favorite new catch phrase.

RORY: Oy with the poodles already!

LORELAI: I’m telling you, it’s knocking “Whatcha talking ’bout, Willis?” right out of first place.

was this really a gilmoreism because as I remember Lorelai was putting together funny words to make a funny catchphrase. it started with Poodles and then she said Oy is a weird word too. then told Rory “You know what would be a great catchphrase (or something along those lines)? Oy with the Poodles already”. this all took place at the beginning of a friday night dinner.

gilmoreism?

I think this is a Gilmoreism in the sense that 20 years from now, you think back on this show and this will be one of the famous quotes/phrases that sticks out in your mind. I know this phrase has certainly made its way into my vernacular. However, it does not really reference anything, other than the fact that ’oy’ and ’poodle’ are funny words.

It’s also an indirect

It’s also an indirect Gilmore-ism, in the sense that “it’s knocking ’whatcha talking ’bout, Willis?’ right out of first place.”

okay so i know it isn’t exactly a pop culture reference, but but me and my friends use it all the time! we all start laughing and no one knows why. Then we start laughing at their faces, so this is a good gilmore moment!

Oy!
