Out of the blue, Jess has a new (old, actually) car. Luke is in a frenzy wondering how Jess paid for it. After Luke has a very unproductive conversation with his defiant nephew, Luke takes it up with Gypsy. At the time, Gypsy is estimating repairs on Jackson’s truck, which she tells Jackson is going to make her very rich. She subtly berates Jackson for mistreating his truck so. “Mr. Grind-it-til-you-find-it,” she calls him.
Luke pelts Gypsy with questions about Jess’s car. Did Jess pay with cash? Is she sure the money wasn’t counterfeit? Finally, he asks her if, when Jess took the money out of wherever he had it, a gun or something else fell out, insinuating that Jess stole the money. Gypsy looks at him wide eyed and says, “No, but he was carrying it in a canvas bag with a big dollar sign on it.” Luke freaks out and thinks that Gypsy, the sarcastic car saleswoman, is serious! Gypsy rubs her head and sighs:
GYPSY: Guys are stupid.
LUKE: What?
GYPSY: You strip your gears, you ride your breaks, and if we don’t laugh after we make a joke, you think we’re serious.
