Ran across this on The TV Addict blog. It’s about The Return of Jezebel James. If you haven’t heard about it yet, Jezebel James is Team Palladino’s new project, a pilot for Fox for 2007. It’s a half-hour sitcom starring Parker Posie and Lauren Ambrose. And I also understand Scott Cohen (who played Max Medina in our beloved Gilmore Girls) has been signed on as the boyfriend.

In a blog post today, The TV Addict says:

If you are interested in attending a private run-thru of the show on Thursday, April 5th at Paramount Studios in the afternoon, email us at thereturnofjezebeljames@yahoo.com and we will give you the details and even pay for your parking. You must be 18 or older.

But if you think you might hate the Palladinos… What really got me to post about this today, as opposed to in the weekly “Gilmore Girls News” post, was a comment one disgruntled fan left:

I am still upset about what the Palladino’s [sic] left us with at the end of their reign over GG with the last season finale… I cannot invest for [sic] series creators who drop kick us… I like the dialogue that Amy writes. I just think that she should answer for the unredeemable [sic] cliffhanger.

Ignorant comments like this really cook my goose. I know where he got this, too. The same executives who pushed Amy and Dan out without even finding out what they wanted. There was never even a problem with the contract negotiation, because there was never even a contract negotiation.

And then these execs go on the record to claim that the beginning of season 7 sucked because of Amy and Dan. Well, I’m not a big network exec with a bunch of stockholders to save face in front of. So I can’t tell you what their tiny minds are actually thinking. But I am a writer. And I’m a storyteller. And I’m here to tell you the truth about the season 6 finale.

For the record, the cliffhanger at season 6 was very redeemable. It may have seemed irredeemable to fans— at least those who are not writers. But that’s what makes good drama! Good drama is also something the Palladinos are great at, as you know. And it’s unfair to saddle them with the demise of GG, even though they couldn’t be there to prevent it and all they ever did for the show was to come up with the vision, instill the whole team with that vision, and turn GG into an overnight world-wide phenomenon.

I know that little bit is not enough to make up for a hurt fan’s self-righteous indignation. But if I were going to be anywhere near the Paramount Studios on April 5, I would be at this private run-thru. I would camp out on the sidewalk if that would help me get in. And you can bet that I’m going to be watching The Return of Jezebel James as soon as I get the chance.

And I’m going to do one more thing, too, because the Palladinos should indeed be held accountable for all they did to GG. The thing I’m going to do is to make a prediction. I don’t like predictions, because predictions usually go awry. And my predictions especially go awry. But in this case, there’s a 6-year-long record of consistent results on which to predict future performance. Here’s my prediction:

Jezebel James is going to be a hit.
