Are you a hard-core Gilmore Girls fan like me? Here are 8 benefits you can get by visiting Gilmore-ism.com every day.
- Up-to-date front-page dashboard. At a glance of the front page, see what’s the next episode, what’s the latest word on season 8, new posts, new headlines, new GG quotes, what’s happening on the message board, and what posts have current discussions.
- Helpful articles and commentary to satisfy your Gilmore Girls longings. Want to evangelize Gilmore Girls without sounding like a dork? We’ve got it covered. Or read about how Luke and Lorelai can live happily ever after or about fighting the Lorelai effect. Or watch me talk about the hay bale maze from my messy basement.
- An on-line, dynamic database of Gilmore-isms. Search Gilmore Girls pop-culture references. Want to find out what Gilmore-isms are in your favorite episode? They’re listed in the episode guide. Want to find out what TV shows are referenced by GG? Go to the list of pop-culture references. Or maybe you just want to pull up random quotes. There’s a page for that, too.
- First (and sometimes only) reports of deep GG news. Because we’re tuned into more industry news sources, we get deep GG-related news before the other GG sites, which usually rely on hit-and-miss tips. We’ve been the first to report on numerous stories connected with Amy Sherman-Palladino’s new project The Return of Jezebel James. Similarly, Lauren Graham’s new movie, Evan Almighty and Alexis Bledel’s movie I’m Reed Fish.
- On-site news and views feeds from other GG news sites. Yes, we actually provide up-to-date GG news headlines from around the Internet, as well as discussion and analysis of Gilmore Girls. We can pull this off, because Gilmore-ism.com is built on cutting-edge, Web 2.0 software that integrates with these other sites.
- On-site fan-fiction feeds from key fan-fiction sites. Similarly, we provide an up-to-date list of Gilmore Girls fan-fiction published on key fanfic sites.
- Obscure (and not so obscure) merchandise listings. Want to know where you can hear the latest song Grant-Lee Phillips sang? Or where to get a copy of that cool T-shirt Lorelai was wearing? Or maybe you just want to see creative GG-inspired designs. They’re on the Merchandise catalog page and posted on the blogs. And if you can’t find it, ask. Maybe we can dig it up.
- A casual, friendly message board. If you feel like you get lost in the rules and bustle of other GG message boards, you may feel more at home at the Gilmore-ism.com Forums. Our message board is designed to be less like a city and more like… well, like Stars Hollow. And even if there’s not much activity, you’ll always have at least one friend there to chew the fat with.
This doesn’t even touch upon the advantages and additional content you get by subscribing to the e-mail lists.
And on top of all that, here are 4 advanced features you can use if you register for free on Gilmore-ism.com.
- Comment on blog posts, post in the Forum, and add your own Gilmore-isms. Participate in the community. It’s like signing up to run a booth at the Firelight Festival, or to be a part of the latest town fundraiser. Yeah, you could just watch as a bystander. But it’s way more fun to be a part of the community.
- Vote on Gilmore-isms and other pages. You have to show up at the town meeting if you want your voice to be heard. Or if you really want to be a part of Stars Hollow. Each quote on Gilmore-ism.com has a 5-star rating. But you need to register for free if you want to rate your favorite quotes.
- Get recommendations of Gilmore-isms and other content you might like. This “Content for You” feature is based on the user ratings. As you and other users rate content, the site matches your preferences with those of other Gilmore-ism.com residents. (Like NetFlix and Amazon do.)
- Get new posts and comments by email. After you log in, “subscribe blog” and “subscribe post” links appear. These let you receive automatic emails whenever someone posts new content that you may be interested in. You can also subscribe to forum threads, so that you can get email when someone responds to your forum post.
And not to spill the beans, but here’s what’s on the horizon. And if I have my way, Gilmore-ism.com will offer much more than even this eventually.
- A staff of Gilmore Girls experts. I’m currently looking for more ultimate GG fans who know how to write… and who would be interested in blogging about our favorite show. And I’m also looking for people to scan news sources and post reports in a blog. If you’d like to be involved in this, please contact me and apply to be a Gilmore-ism.com blogger.
- Better features for the database of Gilmore-isms. Right now, some parts of the database are limited. Each quote, for example, can only refer to one pop-culture reference. But sometimes GG characters machine-gun fire pop-culture references. And we really want these to be part of the same quote. So that quote needs to refer to multiple pop-culture references. This is just one of the database features that are on the list.
- Photo galleries, wallpapers, icons, video and audio clips, fan fiction… All the stuff that you’d expect a GG fan site to have. If you want to maintain one of these, let me know, and I’ll have it added to the site.
- User quizzes, trivia games, and interactive on-line chat. And more high-tech Web 2.0 features.
Yes, there are other sites that offer some of what Gilmore-ism.com offers. But none have it all, in one place, at one website. It’s a site made by a Gilmore Girls fanatic, for Gilmore Girls fanatics.
My dream is to make Gilmore-ism.com the authoritative Gilmore Girls fan-site of the next decade. Please join me in this goal! Support Gilmore-ism.com.
