A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” is a classic hymn of the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther wrote it, paraphrasing Psalm 46, sometime around 1529, in German. (“Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott!”) The most well known English translation was by Frederic Hedge in 1853, and this is the one that appears in Gilmore Girls.

Being a classic hymn, it has been recorded by many, many artists. And many of these recording are enjoyable to listen to. One of my favorite renditions is Glad’s on their album The Acapella Project (if you can find a copy).
