(Gilmore Girls fan site)At the Television Critics Association press tour this month, Amy Sherman-Palladino showed up to talk about her new project, The Return of Jezebel James. On the panel, she also chatted about the Gilmore Girls series finale:
“I didn’t watch it,” said Palladino, her head adorned with an ivory feathered stovepipe hat, her feet sporting boots that matched. “I think I just got very drunk that night and sat in a corner, and he (Daniel) read in a corner, and then we just got quiet and went to bed. I couldn’t watch it because it wasn’t my ending, it wasn’t going to be what I had in my head forever, and I was going to do something crazy, homicidal, suicidal, something with an ’-idal’ in it.”
Amy danced around the subject of whether she’d ever return to the characters to write some kind of send-off movie — which, if nothing else, would allow her to reveal the famous two-word last line she had been boasting about for years. So the critic asked her directly if she wanted to tell us the two words.
“’You’re adopted,’” she said, laughing.
As a few critics called out, “Seriously?” the usually quiet Daniel Palladino assured us, “That’s not it. Let’s be clear.”
