The summer is about half over. This means we begin to look to September and the next season of TV. Here’s a pretty long list of where you can find actors and actresses from Gilmore Girls during the 2007-2008 TV season.
Note that there are many more appearances of these and other Gilmore people. Just look through their credits lists in IMDb if you doubt. I’ve listed only ones I could readily find information about.
Lauren Graham (Lorelai) starred in Evan Almighty, which may still be in theaters in your area. But look for the DVD, coming October 9. She’ll also be co-starring in Flash of Genius, coming in 2008.
Alexis Bledel (Rory) starred in I’m Reed Fish, an independent film currently in theaters (if you can find it). It’s coming to DVD on September 18, and I already have it in my NetFlix queue. She’s also starring in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, scheduled for release August 8, 2008.
As a bonus, Alexis appeared in “Life is Short”, a short film you can watch at Russ Lichter’s site. He edited the film. (This is only for adults, as it has strong language and adult subjects.) Danny Strong (Doyle) also appears in this film.
And speaking of Danny Strong, he’s appearing in Sydney White, coming out on September 21. He’s also starring in
Bad Guys, an independent film currently in post-production. And according to IMDb, he will appear in the independent film Robbin’ in da Hood.
Scott Patterson (Luke) appeared in independent film Her Best Move, but I’ve found little information on whether it will be coming to theaters (even independent theaters), or whether a DVD will be released to production.
In the meantime, he’s been signed to star in one of the CW’s new series, Aliens in America. This is “a ground-breaking new comedy” about 16-year-old Justin Tolchuk, whose mother decides to improve his social status at school by importing an exchange student to be his friend. When the student turns out to be a Pakistani Muslim teenager named Raja, issues of diversity and tolerance come to the fore. Scott plays Gary, Justin’s father. This show premiers Monday, October 1, at 8:30 PM.
Then on Monday, October 15, at 9:30 PM, flip over to ABC to see Melissa McCarthy (Sookie) in Samantha Who? (née Samantha Be Good, née Sam I Am). This comedy stars Christina Applegate as Samantha Newly, who wakes up from an 8-day coma to find that she’s lost her memory. Melissa plays Dena, one of Sam’s friends.
Sticking with the TV comedy theme, you can catch Tricia O’Kelley (Nicole Leahy) as Marly in The New Adventures of Old Christine, on CBS, Monday nights at 8:30 PM.
Krysten Ritter (Lucy in season 7) is sure to have additional guest appearances during the second season of ’Til Death, in which she plays the Starks’ daughter Allison, who is normally off at college. But she managed to show up for 4 episodes out 22 in the first season. Besides, this show always leaves me on the floor, laughing my head off. The first-season DVD is scheduled for releasse August 21. And season 2 premiers on Wednesday, September 19 at 8:30 PM on FOX.
(According to IMDb, Krysten also appears in the movie 27 Dresses, starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden, scheduled for release January 11, 2008.)
But there’s another good reason to watch ’Til Death. Because it gets you in the habit of watching FOX on Wednesday nights at 8:30. Because at some point, in that timeslot, FOX will switch over to Amy Sherman-Palladino’s new project The Return of Jezebel James. (Its premier is currently projected for January 30.) I’m predicting it will feel like a cross between Roseanne and Gilmore Girls and will be classing Amy Sherman-Palladino. Scott Cohen (Max Medina) also appears in Jezebel James as Sarah’s boyfriend Marcus. (For more related info, see my The Return of Jezebel James fan-site.)
Jared Padalecki (Dean) of course can still be seen starring as Sam Winchester on the third season of Supernatural. That starts on Thursday, October 25 at 9 PM on the CW. He also is hosting a horror-reality anthology series on MTV, Room 401. That’s already airing Tuesday nights at 10 PM.
And Jared is coming to the big screen in The Christmas Cottage, November 30, inspired by the early life and art of Thomas Kinkade.
I should also note that Olivia Hack (Tana Schrick from season 4) does the voice of Ty Lee, one the more entertaining villains in the anime series Avatar: The Last Airbender, on Nickelodeon.
By the way, a little season-4 trivia. Did you know that Jane Espenson was a co-producer and writer during season 4? She also worked on series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Jake in Progress. And she has her own blog: Jane in Progress, at JaneEspenson.com. Do you know how cool I felt when I saw her names in the GG credits? <sly grin>
Okay… Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) may or may not be returning on Heroes. (It appeared as if his character died last season, and what’s happening next season is being kept a secret. Blah blah blah.) But you can see webisodes of the series he’s directing for American Eagle Outfitters, It’s a Mall World, right at their website. The first episode is up there already, and Milo himself appears in it.
Milo is also starring in the upcoming crime thriller Pathology, to be released November 30. It’s about a group of med students who hatch a scheme to see who can commit a crime that even a fellow pathologist couldn’t unravel.
Liza Weil (Paris) appeared in Year of the Dog. The DVD is coming out August 28. She’s also slated to appear in a number of upcoming films (Order Up, Neal Cassady, and Little Fish, Strange Pond) but little information is available on them.
Keiko Agena is slated to co-star in the movie Major Movie Star, coming in 2008. This movie stars Jessica Simpson as a movie star who finds out her boyfriend is gay, discovers that her cousin (who was also her accountant) stole all her money, and then enlists in the U.S. Army Reserve. Keiko plays one of her fellow enlistees.
Todd Lowe (Zack) appeared in independent action thriller Redline this past spring. The DVD is coming out August 21.
Aris Alvarado (Caesar) co-starred in Kickin’ It Old Skool, an independent film with Jamie Kennedy, also released this past spring. Twenty years after a freak break dancing accident put him in a coma, Justin Schumacher (Jamie Kennedy) wakes up. The girl of his dreams is engaged to marry his grade-school nemesis, Justin must rally his former squad, bust a move, and win back the girl of his dreams. This DVD comes out on August 28.
And Chris Eigeman (Jason Styles) starred in The Treatment, along with Famke Janssen. This independent film enjoyed only limited release in May, but the DVD is to be released October 9. It’s the story of Jake Singer, a schoolteacher in New York. Emotionally paralyzed by his mothers death, he embarks on a course of psychoanalysis with the therapist from hell. But when he meets widow Allegra Marshall, he bounces from the couch to Allegra’s bed. And his real life begins to feel like analysis. Like the others, it too is already in my NetFlix queue.
Tanc Sade (Finn) is to appear in Sex and Death 101, October 19. Don’t know anything else about it.
Now, Adam Brody’s movie In the Land of Women, the DVD is probably coming out October, but I don’t have a date yet.
He’s also starring in The Ten, with Paul Rudd, Jessica Alba, Winona Ryder, Gretchen Mol, Famke Janssen, and others. This is an independent comedy of ten vignettes, each one inspired by one of the Biblical commandments. “Puts the sin back in cinema.” Har har. This film was released in New York August 3, with expanding release August 17.
And he’s starring in another independent film, Smiley Face, about a slacker actress whose day goes to hell when she tries to get everything on her to-do list done. Don’t know when it’s being released, but it’s supposed to be this year.
Whew! That’s not everybody, and not everything, only what I could get good info on… And I’m beginning to think I really need to add an event calendar to this site, to keep track of all these premiers and releases and what not. But that’s a new subject.
