West Side Story is a musical written by Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim. It originally appeared on Broadway in 1957, directed by Jerome Robbins. In 1961, it was made into an award-winning, popularly and critically acclaimed movie starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and Russ Tamblyn (father of Amber Tamblyn).

Tony is a member of a gang, the Jets, made of up white Americans. Conflict arises when he falls in love with Maria, whose brother leads a rival gang, the Sharks, whose members are all Puerto Rican.
